The 2020 Kastle MX89 skis are an absolutely ripping on-trail performer. How quickly we forget about fully cambered skis. We've gotten used to having tip and tail rocker in pretty much all of our skis these days that we've forgotten how well a cambered ski performs. When you tip the ski on edge, the MX89 instantaneously hooks on to the turn. You'll feel the camber underfoot engage and take you for a 17 meter ride through one of the cleanest turns you've ever made. The precision and performance of these skis is simply remarkable. The flat tail holds you in the turn until the end, and by that time, the skis have built up an enormous amount of energy that gets released and propels you into the next turn almost automatically. The skier should be fairly balanced, as the amount of power and precision is enough to really throw you off your center if you're not committed. At 89 mm underfoot, the skis are on the wide side for a dedicated groomer ski, but don't let that fool you, the quickness from edge to edge is pretty amazing. They do have the capability to handle off-piste terrain, and if you do take them off-roading, be prepared to put in the work. They'll give it back to you, but you have to put in the energy in the first place. With a wood core and dual metal laminate, Kastle has made the MX89 after a pure carver's heart.
